The Future of the User Interface is the Future of Computing, Part 2

This is a continuation of some ruminations I began in Part 1.

Once the NUI (Neurological User Interface) revolution begins, we may see some strange social trends, unique opportunities, and unique problems emerge, such as:

  • Avatar therapists and monitors
  • Processing inequalities
  • Hyperwealthy and subsistence-level poor classes
  • Naturals backlash movement
  • Mind control terrorism & intelligence operations
  • Cyborg-ization of military forces
  • Reality hacking for crime, fun, and profit

I’ll have to flesh these points out in later posts. Right now, I’m tired and going to bed. For an interesting exercise, think about the implications of the technology I described in Part 1 in light of the above list. Imagine your own extrapolations of the points above and post them in the comments if you like.

Next: Part 3.

    “Avatar therapists and monitors”

I for one, look forward to this. Therapists do NOTHING but bounce your own thoughts back at you and force you to analyze yourself. They actually do very little. Look at Eliza.

    “Hyperwealthy and subsistence-level poor classes”

You talk about this later, but I have a point to make. Inserting delicate wires into yr #$%@##% SKULL is a major surgery. Trust me, they aren’t gonna have a “pop and go” lil gadget anyone can use to wire themselves. This will always cost $$$ because you are always paying for the talent and knowledge of the surgeon. Unless they move to highly specialized street docs who will put you out on someone’s couch and then give you the future equivalent of a new ear piercing. Would you risk it? So yes, those that are “untapped” will face a HUGE information deficit.

“Naturals backlash movement”??? buried by the “Mind control terrorism & intelligence operations” and “Cyborg-ization of military forces” Q.E.D.
